From process to visual language.
A cinematic portrait of Atelier 56.

For tattoo artist Moritz Müller and Atelier 56, BURBAS developed and produced a commercial that moves between the creation of a large-scale back tattoo, Müller’s motifs, the studio itself and the wider process behind his work.

The film follows the tattooing process while staging Müller’s craft, the studio and a selection of his motifs through precise, abstract imagery. Detailed close-ups and controlled lighting move between documentary observation and visual interpretation.

CRT monitors displaying glitch-driven 3D visuals formed part of the set design, giving the space a raw, layered atmosphere and creating a visual counterpoint to the precision of the tattoo work.
